CHARACTER NAME: Mabel Pines
AGE: 12
CANON: Gravity Falls
CANON POINT: Post Season 1
FAMILY TYPES: Jungle Troopers: While Mabel is not a quiet person by any means, this family basically describes her to a tee. Her personality is so bright you’d probably go blind if personality had a physical form. In addition Mabel is always ready to go on a new adventure with her brother Dipper, ready and willing to solve another mystery using the silliest Mabel-brand means necessary.
Virus Busters: Mabel might only be 12, but she’s got a heart of gold. No matter what she sets out to do she’ll do it to the best of her abilities with a bright grin all the while. She utilizes that happy heart of hers whenever she can, especially if that means being able to lift someone’s spirits. She sees the potential you have, so why can’t you?
Wind Guardians: No matter how small the task Mabel’s resolve never seems to waver (whether it be trying to find buried treasure or trying to bezazzle her newest sweater). Mabel’s enthusiasm knows no bounds, and you better believe she’ll be over the top in just about everything she does.
APPEARANCE: Mabel is a spunky 12 year old who’s just about as adorable as you can imagine. Her hair is deep brown and long, easily reaching her waist when completely brushed out. She almost always wears a headband, barette, or something similar in her hair, rarely going without something in it. Her cheeks are always rosy and she sports a mouth full of braces. As far as the dress portion Mabel’s appearance goes, the thing to know is that she LOVES sweaters. So much so that she has a different sweater for almost every occasion, and it’s rare you’ll see the same one twice within the same week, or month if she’s feeling especially creative. She’s also been known to knit her own sweaters, so it’s hard to say exactly how many she might really have. Of course Mabel won’t have her sweaters on hand when she arrives, but that won’t stop her from gathering the materials to make an entirely new set for herself. No better time to make new sweaters like the present, right? However she’ll arrive in her signature outfit: a pink sweater with a matching headband, decorated with a shooting star leaving a rainbow trail, and a purple skirt with black shoes and white socks.
PERSONALITY: Describing Mabel is an optimist would be a complete understatement. While most might see the world in a shade of grey, she sees it in all the colors of the rainbow. Every cloud has a silver lining, and not much is exempt from this philosophy. She is constantly bursting with energy and rarely can she be caught without a smile brightening her expression. She’s very outgoing and her curiosity knows no bounds. Mabel is similar to most children her age in the fact that when she gets stuck on something she really gets stuck. It’s this unwavering determination and excitement for just about everything that keeps her bright and happy almost all the time. While Mabel is happy-go-lucky, she’s also rather silly, prone to random acts of silliness and general frivolity at any given moment. Some might find her annoying for it, but to Mabel it’s just another layer of her adorableness. She’s not only aware of her cuteness, but she cherishes it. If anything, her outlook on life is stamped with the glass being half full.
Mabel’s fondest hobbies include knitting her many colorful sweaters, arts and crafts, and scrapbooking- among other things. Similar to most girls her age, Mabel’s a hopeless romantic, obsessed with vampire novels and her unending quest to find her true love. She tends to be a little too overbearing when it comes to crushing on guys, and her interests change by the day. Though she seems to have some pretty bad luck at picking boyfriends (one of her boyfriends turned out to be several gnomes, and another a mermaid), but regardless she’ll probably never cease in her quest for true love. In the same vein, Mabel’s sweet demeanor makes it incredibly hard for her to say no, especially if she knows it will end up hurting someone in the long run. This happened with Gideon Gleeful, who successfully convinced Mabel to go out with him on several dates, making each one harder than the last to refuse. Leading him on in this way- unintentionally or not- nearly ended in her brother getting killed. She hates lying, on top of being a terrible liar in the first place.
While Mabel is generally optimistic, she’s not completely immune to getting upset or angry. Gravity Falls’ local popular girl Pacifica Northwest in particular knows how to really hurt Mabel’s feelings, constantly putting her down and belittling her over how silly and weird she is. Most of the time Mabel’s rather content with who she is as a person, but she’s shown that she can get a little self-conscious about herself if she’s pushed too much. It takes a LOT, but it’s still there. On the whole, Mabel has a deep rooted attachment and love for her friends, but mostly her family and her twin brother Dipper. Should anything ever happen to them she’d be crushed, no matter how positive she tried to be.
Beyond her beloved pet pig Waddles, Dipper is Mabel’s best friend and best little brother ever, in her opinion. As most twins tend to be they’re inseparable and have been ever since they were little. Mabel likes to tease Dipper a lot and they do tend to bicker but it’s all in good spirits in the end. Mabel would risk her life for Dipper without a second thought and has actually done so on many occasions. She’ll stick up for him if she sees him being bullied, and Dipper will always be the first person to step in and pull Mabel out of harm’s way. Mabel fondly calls their dynamic duo “The Mystery Twins”. Mabel really would prefer having Dipper by her side, but she’ll gladly carry the Pine’s family flag on her own for as long as she needs to.

“Boop! Paging Doctor Waddles! You’re needed in sector three of the west wing!”
Mabel giggled to herself as she got down on her knees next to her bed, pulling out a plump pig from beneath it. With a grunt she hefted him into her arms before gently depositing him on the bed, moving to adjust the little doctor’s mirror she fitted around his head. The pig oinks curiously and tilts his head at her, completely tolerant as she takes his hooves in her hands.
“Your patient is running out of time! We’re going to have to take drastic measures!” Then she darts from the bed over to the closet, digging into a cardboard box beneath several clothes hangers holding just a few of her many sweaters. Waddles sat silently, watching as she tossed random articles of clothing over her shoulders, making a rather grand mess of the already messy bedroom before remerging with a little white coat that looks to have been hand knitted. Quickly she runs back over to her bedside before slipping the little coat on the pig, putting her hands on her hips as she examines her handy work.
“There! Now we’re all prepped for surgery!” She said with a grin. After a pause she pouts a little and rubs her chin, squinting at the pig. “Hmm…You’re right. Dipper wasn’t a very good patient last time, was he? …Though maybe next time we shouldn’t try using the whole box of band aids for a broken arm. I didn’t know they were super adhesive!” Well, it was too late at that point to rectify her mistake. Dipper should be downstairs somewhere nursing a sore arm, probably still trying to peel off the several hundred colorful bandages Mabel put all over him.
“Not to worry! Nurse Mabel will find you a new patient,” She continued taking Waddles’ face in her hands before pressing her forehead to the pig’s. “Maybe Grunkle Stan needs a doctor! He is kinda old after all.” Waddles just sat there and grunted softly, the mirror slipping down his face slightly. Oh well, Mabel would scour the entire town for a patient for her little pig doctor if she had to. She was grateful that Dipper was happy enough to play along, up until that little fiasco with the band aids anyway. Playing “Doctor” with Waddles had been one of her favorite things to do in her spare time ever since she got her pet. To be honest, she couldn’t imagine life without the little pink pig now. She didn’t dub him as her “soul mate” for nothing. That really meant something!
Chuckling she hopped up onto the bed, letting Waddles crawl into her lap. “Ooookay, the Doctor’s not in right now, huh? That’s ok. Next time I’ll be the Doctor, and you can be the patient.”
